Magic at Portmarnock beach. Day 21 Caroline’s sunrise photo and health challenge

Portmarnock beach is magical place for sunrise pictures and also perfect beach for a family trip. I have been dreaming for ages about watching sunrise with my kids together and experiencing the wonderful view of sun popping up from the horizon over sea. I was searching for perfect location, joined sunrise club, went to sunrise event with photographers and tried many locations. Until now I was unlucky. The sun was either hiding behind clouds or popping up over some buildings or boats. Have you read how I was chasing the sun at Sea Point? How the ferry in Dublin docks arrived exactly at the place where the sun was rising and how the ferry stayed in the view? Or how the sun was making fun of me? (Well, in case you missed some article, click on the blue text to catch up.) Finally the sun was kind, generous and playful, shining in its full beauty and pop pop popping up from the sea. My dream came true. Yeah!

Photos of the day 21 of Caroline’s sunrise photo and health challenge were taken with my camera on Sunday 11.9.2016 from 6:37am to 8:20am (time of sunrise was 6:52am).

My first attempt for creating a frame in Photoshop (photo above). I can’t stop looking at the photo and I will probably print it soon and hang it on the wall. What do you think?

img_3265

First tree photos below were taken before sunrise. When the sky is clear with only few clouds, the magic is happening about 30 minutes before sunrise (at the time of Civil Twilight). We saw the changing colors on the sky from car on our way to Portmarnock beach. We arrived quite late, so we only had about 15 minutes before the sun started to peek over the sea. I didn’t have much time to get my camera ready or take many pictures, but I was very happy that we had finally good weather, we were at good location and we were all there waiting for sunrise. Me and my kids, we all experienced the magic together as a family for the first time.

Exercise of the day:

Well, I have done lots of walking, running and chasing after my subjects for photography. We brought our family dog Gerina to the beach and my kids wanted to take picture with the dog and with the sunrise in background. ( Boy with his dog: Special request for sunrise photo for painting.) My kids kept throwing things in the sea for the dog to jump in the waves and I was walking barefoot in the water taking photos. My kids joined me in barefoot walking for little while and we all loved it. As you can see we all did lots of exercise. I have to say that we slept nearly 12 hours at night. I used to have very bad sleeping habits and I still have sleepless nights (and insomnia), so long sleep like this was big success for me.

How are you doing in achieving your health goals? Any luck in chasing the sun? Please let me know in comments and pop into our new Facebook group for chat.

Enjoying photography at Portmarnock beach. Day 20 Caroline’s sunrise photo and health challenge

Discover another amazing location for sunrise photoshoot with Day 20 of Caroline sunrise photo and health challenge, look at many seascape pictures and a little bit of color magic that you can create in Photoshop.

Photos of the day 20 of Caroline’s sunrise photo and health challenge were taken with my camera on Saturday 10.9.2016 from 6:55am to 9:30am (time of sunrise was 6:51am).

Portmarnock beach is amazing place for morning photoshoot with many interesting spots for taking sunrise pictures. We arrived at Portmarnock beach quite late,  just 3 minutes before sunrise. The sky was cloudy anyway and nothing much was happening on the horizon. We saw a photographer taking pictures so first we went to see what is so interesting about the spot that he choose.

img_1802

Me and my son were standing there for ages, adoring the beautiful waves and I took many photos. Some photographs get up very early before sunrise to get to the location first and place the tripod on the best spot. There is a lot that I have to learn about sunrise photography. I have been taking sunrise photos just with my camera in hand, which is difficult to keep the horizon straight and the image can get easily blurry or not sharp enough. I havent started to use the tripod, because I love walking around the location and taking photos from different angles. On Saturday I was adoring the waves, rocks, sandy beach, near buildings in the view and I had to document every little interesting spot that I saw. I guess with time I will try some photography tricks with tripod, but for now I just can’t stay still at one place. First I picked few photos for you that I didn’t adjust in Photoshop. It may look a little bit blue boring, but I think the images still has some magic.

The sunset was not very spectacular on Saturday, but we were excited to watch all the magic that was happening on the beach. The sunlight and colors looked much better when I was looking at it with my own eyes at the location. In my computer most of the photos are just blue, nearly tempting me to change it into black and white, but some images do have little bit golden spark. I adjusted some of the images below to enhance the colors.

Maybe you would like to know how I am playing with the images in Photoshop, so here are tree photos for you. One of them is the original shot. (You can click on the three images below and keep clicking left or right to see how the colors are changing.)

Apart from professional photographer I meet like-minded people during my morning walks. Sometimes me and my son even make new friends. I was so happy this morning to meet new friend who share the same passion for sunrise photography as me. She took some lovely photos of me with my son for me. I cropped the images and adjusted the colors litlle bit. I included the original shots, so you can have a look.

Boy with his dog: Special request for sunrise photo for painting.

Today morning I had amazing photoshoot at Portmarnock beach with my kids and our family dog Gerina. My son requested a photo for painting that he want me to do for him. He was posing with his dog at sunrise on the beach and he told me exactly what he wants to have in the painting.

img_3788

It is amazing image of a boy bonding with his dog. It look like they are both pointing at something. Boy says:”Look at the sun.” The dog says: “Look at the plane.”

I bet they are talking about something magical. What do you think?

When I had first quick look at photos from today’s morning photoshoot, I just felt in love with this photo. Well, I just have to take canvas, brushes, pick the colors and start to work on the painting soon.

There are many more images from today’s morning photoshoot that I have to edit and make ready for publishing. Come back later to look at more pictures and read all about our morning adventure. It was first time when me and my kids saw the sun popping up straight from the sea. It was epic sunrise!!

Have a look what motivates us to get up early and watch sunrise, click at the link below and discover the magic of morning walks.

Chasing the sun with my son. Day 19 Caroline’s sunrise photo and health challenge

Do you and your children like to get up in the morning? Do you remember how it felt to be sleepy first few hours at school? Have a look how you can be refreshed by bonding with your kids and watching sunrise together. Try Caroline’s sunrise photo and health challenge and you may fall in love with getting up early.  Yead, it did happen to me and my kids. I was a night owl, not anymore.

Today, First time me and my son were actually watching together the real sunrise. We saw a bit of the magic of the Civil Twilight too. My kids have joined Caroline’s sunrise photo and health challenge few times with me, but we were never lucky enough to see the full magic that is happening on the sky with the sun rising on the horizon. Finally, we did it!

Photos of the day 19 of Caroline’s sunrise photo and health challenge were taken just with my phone today, Friday 9.9.2016 6:52am (time of sunrise in Dublin today was 6:49am).

son-watching-sunrise

Do you feel that it is too early to get up and watch the sunrise? Dont worry! The sun is rising everyday one or two minutes later now, so have a look at internet and check sunrise times in your city. You may find out that in few weeks you will have to wake up only few minutes earlier to catch the sun rising and it will be possible to for you to watch the magic of sunrise.

My kids usually don’t want to get up in the morning, but when it comes to some morning adventure, they are not complaining. Early mornings spent with your family have many benefits. Have a look at my article  Wild mushrooms picking early in the morning. Day 10 Caroline’s sunrise photo and health challenge

Today morning, I just wake up my younger son and told him: ” Come on quickly, I have to show you something.” It didn’t take much persuading and we were outside just in few minutes. Some clouds on the sky were already starting to look pink. As we walk to the sea-side, the colors on the sky were changing and I was little bit worried that we will be late and miss the best magic on the sky. My son was very excited, he let his imagination run wild free about what was happening on the sky and he talked a lot. He insisted on running and walking faster so we would not miss anything. We were both chasing the sun. Yeaaah!!

Exercise of the day:

Well, we were walking and running, but that is not all. While we were waiting for the sun to show at the horizon, we have done some exercise too. My sun was trying to record some video of me doing exercise and he also took some pictures of me. He was very happy, running around, making fun of kung fu movies, trying to copy a pose from Karate kid. Laughing is very good exercise for our health and we all need happy moments with family. It was amazing experience for both of us.

Civil Twilight and sunrise photoshoot in Dublin docks. Day 18 Caroline’s sunrise photo and health challenge

Sunrise photoshoot in Dublin docks was one of my best days of Caroline’s sunrise photo and health challenge. I had more than two hours overwhelming and amazing experience of watching sunrise and taking photos. The sky was changing colors every few minutes and the sunlight affected the colors of all the beautiful boats, water and clouds. Sometimes I think that God is having an art lesson and he is painting the sky, creating beautiful views for us to see and enjoy. My photographs from this day are very close to my heart and they are inspiration for my future paintings. I actually have enough material to print photo book of my sunrise photos. I am thinking about doing that some day in the future.

Photos of the day 18 of Caroline sunrise photo and health challenge were taken from 6:00am until 8:00am at Dublin docks on Saturday 27.8.2016

One of the photos that were taken exactly at the official time of sunrise 6:26am:

img_1228-edit

It takes about one hour to walk from my home to Dublin docks, so I started my way just few minutes after 5am. The official time of sunrise that day was 6:26am so I had plenty of time to get to the docklands early.

Civil Twilight

I always want to be at the location at least 30 minutes before the time of sunrise, because that is when all the magic is starting. It is called the Civil Twilight and believe me, you do not want to miss it. I organized photos in todays article by the time when I took them. I wrote notes for you about the time, so you can see how the sky and colors in the images were changing. Civil Twilight at the morning begins when the sun is 6 degrees below the horizon and ends at sunrise. For my location Civil Twilight was from 5:49am until 6:26am. You can google both times, time of sunrise and time of Civil Twilight for your location. It is different around the world and it changes during the year.

When I was on my way to Dublin docks, walking about 40 minutes, I saw that something beautiful was already happening on the sky. I started to panic and worried that I will be late. Luckily for me there was a taxi moving toward me on the road, so I waved my hand to stop the taxi. It took just few minutes of driving and I arrived at the location just around 6am.

First photo was taken at 6:05 am (during Civil Twilight)

Photos taken from 6:18am until 6:25 (during Civil Twilight, it was still before sunrise)

Photo taken just over a minute after sunrise, exactly at 6:27:19:

Photos below were taken from 6:30am until 6:46am (after sunrise). I was hoping to see the sun rising from the sea, but there was a ferry that just arrived and moved exactly in the view where the sun was rising up.

Photos below were taken from 6:51am until 7:02am. We can finally see the sun.

Photos taken from 7:22am until 7:58am:

One of the last photos from location of photoshoot was taken at 7:24am. After that I walked behind the river and took many more pictures.

It was hard to choose photos from this day for my blog post about my day 18 of Caroline’s sunrise photo and health challenge. You will see many more photos from this sunrise photoshoot in different articles on my blog, I could not possibly share them all with you today.
